Tone capacitors (or “caps”) are simple electronic components wired to your guitar’s tone pot that act as high-frequency filters. By bleeding harsh treble frequencies off your pickup signal to the ground wire, they allow lower, warmer tones to pass through to your amp.
When you roll your tone knob down to 1, the cap determines how much high-end frequency is cut.
Capacitor Values: Finding Your Sound
The numerical value of a capacitor dictates its “cut-off point”—the exact threshold where it begins filtering out treble.
